How to get started with partnerships
6 minute read
- Think about what you want to achieve on IGT and what kind of partnership you are comfortable with.
- Do your own due diligence — review the project, its requirements and the people behind it before committing.
- A coordinator can guide the partnership, keep the roadmap on track and mediate if anything goes wrong.
- Everything important belongs in writing: contracts, milestones and invoices all live inside your workspace.
For newcomers, the world of international business partnerships can feel daunting — from choosing the right project to knowing who you can trust on the other side of the deal.
The important thing to remember is that even the most experienced dealmaker once signed their first agreement. At its simplest, a partnership is about three things: choosing the right project, agreeing the terms in writing, and delivering together.
To help get you started, here are six things worth thinking about before you commit to your first partnership on IGT.
1. Think about your goal and time horizon
Are you here to publish a project and find a reliable partner, or to join someone else's project as a partner? Knowing which side of the marketplace you are on — and what you want to achieve — is a good starting point for everything that follows.
Every project on IGT states its expected duration and budget up front. Make sure the time horizon fits your plans: a 24-month infrastructure partnership is a very different commitment from a 3-month trading deal.
2. Decide how much risk you want to take
Every business partnership carries risk — markets shift, counterparties underdeliver, plans change. The way to manage it is due diligence before you sign anything.
On IGT you can review a project's full description, its requirements and its owner's profile before requesting to join. Project owners, in turn, review each applicant and can require specific conditions to be accepted up front. Take your time on this step: it is much cheaper to walk away before a contract than after one.
3. Consider the role of a coordinator
You do not have to manage a partnership alone. IGT coordinators are platform professionals who can be assigned to your partnership to keep it on track: they help maintain the official roadmap, review contracts, issue invoices and mediate disputes if they arise.
A coordinator is especially valuable in cross-border deals where the parties have never worked together before — they act as a neutral third party with visibility over the whole workspace.
4. Put everything in writing
Handshakes do not survive borders. On IGT, every partnership gets an electronic contract with numbered clauses, an approval workflow and handwritten digital signatures backed by a full audit trail — IP address, timestamp and a cryptographic fingerprint of the exact text you signed.
Beyond the contract, the partnership workspace keeps a shared roadmap with milestones and tasks, a document vault and a journal of everything that happens. If a disagreement ever arises, the record is already there.
5. Do not depend on a single partnership
Just as investors avoid putting all their eggs in one basket, experienced traders avoid depending on a single deal or counterparty. If your only partnership stalls, so does your business.
The marketplace lets you explore projects across categories and countries, and your subscription does not limit how many partnerships you can hold. Building two or three smaller relationships is often safer than betting everything on one.
6. Keep your costs clear and low
Costs eat into any deal, so know them in advance. IGT charges a flat subscription for access to the platform, plus deal-related fees that are only settled when your operation actually executes.
Each project states its partnership fee up front, so you know exactly what joining costs before you apply. Invoices are issued inside the workspace by the platform, never as a surprise.
